“Oh Claudia, like Claudia Kishi? You kind of look like her.” -Laura Mulleavy, aka the best compliment giver

Hi! I’m Claudia, a San Francisco based fashion buyer and visual merchandiser dabbling in media. I’ve been obsessed with fashion ever since I saw “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” at the tender age of 5 [their dresses had nice lines and a fun, frisky use of color," ok?]

In high school, I joined newspaper and discovered a knack journalism and mass communications, so I decided to study Media and Communication Studies at the University of San Francisco, where I also minored in film with an emphasis on theory and criticism. Why yes, I did have to listen to a lot of white dudes declare Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher the second coming of Jesus.

As a student at USF, I joined the “San Francisco Foghorn,” where I mainly wrote about film, food, shopping, concerts and got to cover a major music festival. I also got to interview actors like James and Dave Franco and Sasha Lane, directors Julia Ducournau, Mike Mitchell, Walt Dohrn, and Laura and Kate Mulleavy [no, I’m not above name dropping.] I also helped coach public speaking students and played around with film, audio production, and animation.

I started my career in fashion retail by working at a locally owned boutique on Haight Street, where I climbed through the ranks to become the fashion buyer and visual merchandiser, and even developed an online store, thanks to prior Neopets and MySpace coding experience. Because of my media degree, I look at fashion as a communication tool, and am particularly interested in the intersection and use of media to create sales and a brand identity within the fashion industry.
